Hockey athlete in the gym during off-season strength training

Hockey-Specific Online Performance Training

Train for Hockey. Not for the Gym.

Structured online programs designed to improve how you move, build usable strength, develop power and speed, and turn your off-ice training into better performance on the ice.

Every program follows the same joint-to-performance philosophy — movement first, strength second, then power, speed and transfer.

Training harder is not always training better

The Goal Is Not to Get Better at Working Out.

A hockey player does not need to build their entire training identity around a squat PR, bench press number or deadlift total.

Those exercises can be useful tools. But the tool is not the goal.

The goal is to become a better hockey player.

That means the training has to support the positions, force, speed, coordination and repeated effort the game actually demands.

Hood Athletic Edge programming starts by making sure the athlete can move well enough to use the strength they build.

Then we layer strength onto that movement.

Then power.

Then speed.

Then higher-output athletic work that has a reason to transfer back to hockey.

The training exists to serve the athlete. The athlete does not exist to serve the training.

The Hood Athletic Edge performance model

Move Better. Get Stronger. Develop Power. Express Speed.

Every Hood Athletic Edge program is built around a layered development model. We do not jump straight to high-output work if the athlete does not have the movement and strength foundation to support it.

1

Move Better

Prepare the joints, maintain usable range, improve active control and address movement limitations that may interfere with training or hockey positions.

2

Get Stronger

Build strength through the ranges and patterns the athlete can use, with progressive loading appropriate to age, training history and goal.

3

Develop Power

Teach the athlete to express force faster through jumps, throws, explosive lifts and other power-development methods.

4

Express Speed

Progress into sprinting, reactive strength, acceleration and high-velocity athletic work.

5

Transfer to Hockey

The point of every layer is better physical expression on the ice — stronger positions, more explosive movement, better speed and a body capable of supporting the player’s skill.

Why movement comes first

You Cannot Fully Express Strength or Speed Through Positions Your Body Cannot Access or Control.

This is why mobility is not treated as a five-minute afterthought inside Hood Athletic Edge training.

Athletes use CARs, joint preparation, isometrics, lift-offs and other mobility methods where appropriate before progressing into heavier or faster work.

If an athlete is missing meaningful range, we want to identify it.

If the range exists but they cannot actively control it, we want to strengthen it.

If the foundation is there, then we can progressively challenge it under more load and more speed.

The goal is not to spend the entire workout doing mobility.

The goal is to build a body capable of handling the training that comes next.

Elite off-season development

Build the Complete Off-Season.

These are the most complete programs for serious U18, junior, collegiate and professional players who want a full progression from movement and structural preparation into strength, power, speed and conditioning.

20-Week Elite Hockey Off-Season Program

The most complete Hood Athletic Edge off-season system.

If I could go back to the summer before Boston Bruins development camp and rebuild my entire preparation with everything I know now, this is the structure I would follow.

  • Joint preparation and movement foundation.
  • Hypertrophy.
  • Strength.
  • Power.
  • Speed.
  • Structured conditioning.
  • Progressive hockey-specific movement work.

Best for: Junior / collegiate / professional-caliber athletes with a full offseason.

16-Week Elite Hockey Off-Season Program

A condensed version of the complete elite system for athletes with a shorter off-season who still want structured development across strength, power and speed.

  • Hypertrophy and strength phases.
  • Power and speed development.
  • Joint-specific mobility integrated throughout.
  • Structured conditioning.

Age-specific development

The Same Philosophy. The Right Dose for the Athlete.

U18 16-Week Off-Season Program

A scaled version of the elite progression with reduced volume, simpler progressions and age-appropriate loading while preserving the same movement-to-performance structure.

U15 12-Week Foundational Strength + Speed

For younger athletes learning how to train well. Build movement quality, foundational strength, coordination and speed without rushing into training demands they are not ready for.

Targeted development programs

When You Do Not Need the Entire Off-Season — Target the Quality You Need Most.

12-Week Strength + Hypertrophy

For athletes who need more size, structural strength and force-producing capacity. Mobility and joint-specific preparation remain integrated so strength is built on usable movement.

Joint-specific mobility work inside the Hockey Mobility Membership

The mobility membership underneath the training

Your Performance Program Has a Timeline. Your Body Does Not.

Hood Athletic Edge programs already integrate mobility and joint preparation, but the Hockey Mobility Membership gives athletes a deeper year-round toolbox for the things that need more attention than one exercise inside a larger program can provide.

Use it to prepare before skating, rebuild a restricted range, complete recovery work, strengthen end ranges or maintain joint practice throughout the year.

The performance program gives you the larger plan.

The Hockey Mobility Membership gives you the deeper movement system underneath it.

Coaching philosophy

The Off-Season Should Build Your Next Level — Not Just Repair the Last Season.

Too many athletes repeat the same cycle every year.

The season breaks them down.
The offseason gets them back to where they started.
Then the next season breaks them down again.

That is not long-term development.

Every offseason should raise the athlete’s baseline.

Move better than last year.
Get stronger than last year.
Produce more force than last year.
Handle more speed than last year.
Arrive at camp as a more capable athlete than the player who left the previous season.

Over one summer, the difference may look small.

Over three to five years, that trajectory can completely change the athlete.

Development should compound.

Build the Athlete You Want to Become Next.

Do not spend another offseason simply doing more. Follow a progression that gives every phase a purpose — movement, strength, power, speed and transfer. Train for the player you want to be when the puck drops next season.
